Vallepicciola is located in Pievasciata, Vagliagli, on the eastern side of Castelnuovo Berardenga, in the province of Siena. The history of Vallepicciola began in 1999, when the entrepreneur Bruno Bolfo and his sister Giuseppina, originally from Liguria, decided to renovate an old convent of nuns abandoned for decades which was located near their country house in Pievasciata, a hamlet of Castelnuovo Berardenga, a few kilometers from Siena. Today the convent is the wonderful 5-star Hotel Le Fontanelle which attracts tourists from all over the world, thanks to a unique, elegant structure with attention to every detail. The Vallepicciola farm was born around the hotel, which, with its 105 hectares of vineyards, produces 15 labels using only its own grapes. Distributed on the hilly areas to the left of the Arbia river, the vineyards of Vallepicciola Società Agricola srl have been selected and planted following and supporting the composition of the soils and areas, in which amalgam of clays, calcareous marl, bluish marl, tuff, sandstone alternate. and sands. The great variability of the soils of Vallepicciola gives richness, elegance and uniqueness to the wines that come to life here. The company philosophy of Vallepicciola is in fact closely linked to its terroir: the principle is that the wines must be a unique expression of their soil, climate and work carried out in the vineyard, and that the vineyard must be worked with a sustainable approach, so as to can be bequeathed to future generations.

The WATER indicator expresses the potential environmental impacts resulting from the use of fresh water. It takes into account the water directly consumed and polluted by the activities that the company carries out, both in the vineyard and in the cellar, during a calendar year. These impacts are evaluated by two indicators: in particular, water scarcity (Direct Water Scarcity Footprint) depends on the water drawn from water bodies, while the estimate of the qualitative degradation of water (Non-Comprehensive Direct Water Degradation Footprint) derives from processes of re-naturalization of the water bodies.
